Trans-Pacific Rates Fall Again

Average container spot rates fell again this week for the eastbound trans-Pacific trade routes, eliminating the $200 per FEU gain attributed to the last general rate increase (GRI) in the first week of August.

The trans-Pacific spot rates fell $100 to $1,936 for this week, a loss close to 5 percent. These rates are the same level seen the week of July 24th, prior to the last GRI. The latest benchmark is 29.1 percent lower year-over-year and 12.5 percent down from the level seen at the beginning of 2013.
