Eastbound Trans-Pacific Rate Remains Flat, Hike Coming Soon

Benchmark rate for shipping from Hong Kong to Los Angeles remained at $2,086 per 40-foot container for a fourth straight week in the week of Feb. 5. While the rate is down 17.7 percent year-over-year, it is 10.6 percent ($200) higher than it was on the first of January. The rate has been at this level since the week of Jan. 15, when members of the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (TSA) announced the second stage of a two-stage rate increase.

Carriers in the TSA are slated to increase Asia-U.S. rates by $300 per FEU, effective March 15, and are looking for a future increase on  May 1, separate from rate adjustments planned for 2014-15 contracts.
