NOVEMBER UPDATE:
US Customs and Border Protection 10+2 Rule November 7th, 2008: The White House Office of Management and Budget authorized CBP to move forward with 10+2 proposal.

In response to growing concerns over international security and cargo smuggling, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) submitted a proposal on January, 2nd 2008 which will require all importers, including authorized agents, to electronically submit an additional 10 data items, and ocean carriers to provide two extra data sets when bringing cargo into the United States.

The security filing, also known as "10+2" is the Dept. of Homeland Security’s (DHS) strategy to better assess and identify shipments to prevent “high risk shipments”, such as weapons and other dangerous materials from entering the United States.

For more information on the 10+2, visit the CBP website
