Truck freight continued its steady growth through March according to the American Trucking Association’s Truck Tonnage Index. The report shows that truck tonnage slightly rose by .2 percent from February. Year-over year, the adjusted tonnage rose 2.7 percent in March, the smallest annualized increase from the index since December 2009. With the index showing a 5.5 percent year-over-year growth from February, researchers are forecasting a stable but slowed outcome for 2012.
Compared to 5.8 percent growth in both 2010 and 2011, the ATA expects moderate growth of 3 percent in tonnage growth this year.
