ILA Walk Out of Contract Talks

Negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX), which represents shipping companies and terminal operators, opened and ended abruptly last Wednesday morning as the ILA walked out after objecting to employers proposed changes.  The initial strike was averted late last month with a 60 day extension that runs until February 6th.
