Freight Index Up in August

The Cass Freight Index (CFI) has shown a year over year growth of 4.4 percent in August for U.S. shipments. This is the smallest gain in a year and a half, and shows the sluggish growth of the U.S. economy in 2011. Although the August shipment index has shown a growth in demand, the year over year improvement is far less than the 11 percent increase shown in July. The CFI also reports that spending has reached its lowest levels since March of this year.
